Get ready for some ragin’ Cajun fun right here in Charleston! The 25th Annual Lowcountry Cajun Festival returns to James Island County Park on Sunday, April 3, 2016 from 12 – 6 p.m. Bringing Louisiana living to the Lowcountry, the Cajun Festival is a full-day of music, Cajun and Creole foods, children’s activities and entertainment straight from the bayou!
Live, non-stop Zydeco and Cajun music, performed on stage throughout the day. Formerly scheduled headlining band Buckwheat Zydeco recently canceled their performance upon the recommendation of doctors treating Stanley “Buckwheat” Dural for an infection. Terry & The Zydeco Bad Boys has replaced the band as the headliners at this year’s Lowcountry Cajun Festival.
The 2016 festival entertainment lineup is:
Shrimp City Slim – performing from 1 – 2:30 p.m.
Shrimp City Slim (a.k.a. Gary Erwin) is a keyboard player/singer/songwriter based in Charleston but hailing from Chicago. With a focus on Lowcountry blues and original songs, Shrimp City Slim is celebrating 29 full time years in music. He plays over 200 shows per year throughout the Southeast and overseas, and has released 12 original CDs to date. For more information, visit

Sidewalk Zydeco – performing from 2:45 - 4 p.m.
Accordionist Johnny Ace leads this exciting, classic Cajun band from the Northeast Zydeco scene. Recently transplanted to the Lowcountry, Johnny Ace & Sidewalk Zydeco have been playing together since September 2006. The band has repeatedly received “Highly Recommended” ratings from Time Out New York Magazine and has also been highlighted in The New Yorker. For more information, visit
Terry & the Zydeco Bad Boys, performing from 4:30 – 6 p.m.
Terry & the Zydeco Bad Boys was established in 2001 and is led by accordion player Terry Domingue. The traditional zydeco band is from Duson, La and was recently featured on NBC’s The Today Show during a segment about the nearby town of Lafayette.
Cajun Festival is all about full-bellied fun! Local and regional restaurants, caterers and food trucks will cook up a variety of mouth-watering foods, including a variety of Cajun and Creole dishes like jambalaya, alligator, etouffee, andouille sausage and of course, crawfish! Also available will be Lowcountry favorites like seafood and Southern barbecue, plus traditional festival foods like snow cones and funnel cakes.
Other festivities include a crafts market, souvenirs for sale, mechanical rides, and inflatables for kids. Crawfish connoisseurs will have the chance to show off their skills at the popular annual crawfish eating contest, which begins at 2:30 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to sign up for the contest upon their arrival at the festival.
