Charleston County First Steps (CCFS) was selected by the Pi Beta Phi Fraternity for Women to receive a donation of 500 books. The mission of Pi Beta Phi is “to promote friendship, develop women of intellect and integrity, cultivate leadership potential, and enrich lives through community service.” Through their generous donation, a series of lending libraries have been created at CCFS affiliated child development centers as an effort to encourage early literacy. By partnering with like-minded organizations, Charleston County First Steps is able to expand its reach and provide families with high quality resources to ensure the youngest learners in our community are healthy and ready to succeed in school. This is the second year Charleston County First Steps will receive the donation of books from Pi Beta Phi. As a result, this concentrated effort has expanded school libraries in five preschools serving low-income families. The books have also been a valuable resource for training preschool teachers and administrators in the Charleston area.
