The Iron Yard hosts free kids coding events Dec. 7-13

Skills in Computer Science are in demand, and computer programming jobs are growing at twice the national average. Still, the majority of traditional schools don’t offer computer programming classes, meaning tons of kids have never been exposed to computer science.*

As part of Hour of Code, a global effort to introduce students to computer coding, The Iron Yard is hosting free coding events for students at 17 campus locations across the U.S. and London. The courses are being held during the week of Dec. 7-13, and are open to any interested student (and their parents!). Last year, every Apple Store in the world hosted an Hour of Code and even President Obama wrote his first line of code as part of the campaign.

“We believe in investing in the local tech economy for the long run, and that means impacting the next generation,” said Peter Barth, CEO of The Iron Yard. “The entire reason we exist is to create real, lasting change for people, companies and communities through technology education. Hosting these events is a great way to help kids take their first step down a path that could unlock a passion for technology.”

A full list of The Iron Yard’s free Hour of Code classes can be found on this Google Map. Details for each event can be found below. For specifics, please call 312-241-8664.
