ADVANCED STUDIES MAGNET—HAUT GAP

Johns Island, SC - Entrepreneurship and Social Studies teacher Daniel Polasek’s students at Haut Gap Middle School on Johns Island have worked hard during the month of October to foster breast cancer awareness and to raise money to support the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Students in STEMS (Science Technology Mathematics and Engineering) classes designed prototypes for products to manufacture and sell in conjunction with pink products from the Foundation.

Students created pink rings, badges, and other accessories to sell at a student-operated vending station during lunch periods. Students have raised over $500 this month, nearly doubling last year’s total. Kevin Morris, Brad Davis, and Sheila Thomasson of Rick Hendrick Mini boosted advertisement of Haut Gap’s fund raising initiative by parking a brand new Mini Cooper adorned with pink posters and ribbons at the school’s entrance. Fund raising will continue through the end of October, and proceeds will benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
