Feeling Thankful

Good morning Charleston! Thanksgiving is just a few days away. It’s that time of year family gather together to give thanks. It’s all about family and thanksgiving.

While it’s such a festive time of year to see family and friends, some folks you are glad to see come and others you can’t wait to see leave. A lot of preparation goes into the meal. Dinner is not complete without grandma’s sweet potato pie.

While you are preparing for Thanksgiving, merchants are gearing up for Black Friday. Buyers beware! Be sure you know when a deal is a deal. Don’t go overboard! Changes are inevitable when the President comes aboard.

Let me share a few thoughts about Thanksgiving with you and the first one is “family”. I am thankful for my family. Now , I don’t know about you, but the first thing after God is family. My family is strong knitted.

On Thanksgiving we are generally asked to prepare something and the men prepare the meats. What I like most about Thanksgiving is the after dinner dialogue and football. It’s about catching up on family matters.

Let me tell you why family is so important. How do you know real family? When the going gets tough they are there. When they don’t ever say I love you but you just know it.

Family is all about core values and expectations. It’s about acceptance and not rejection. It’s about love and peace.

I am thankful that I have lived long enough to:
-know what’s important from what’s not.
-recognize that nothing that I ever achieved was of my own doing.
-see my children graduate from college and give back to their community.
-appreciate the sacrifices of my parents and elders.
-turn mountains into molehills.
-know that things don’t remain the same always.
-forgive and forget.
-walk away from every fight, win or lose, with my head up.
-understand “thank you” and “you are welcome” are not obsolete.
-appreciate those friends that never left.
-walk through doors that others opened for me and be grateful.
-recognize the beauty in the universe.
-know that you can’t change things overnight.

What are you thankful for?
