When buying, selling or refinancing a home, closing costs can add up. To assist local heroes (i.e., military personnel, firefighters, law enforcement officers, educators, healthcare workers, etc.), five Lowcountry real estate professionals have teamed up to launch Homes For Heroes Charleston (HFHC). As affiliates of the national Homes For Heroes® program, HFHC offers their services at a discounted rate, including a 25% rebate at closing, discounts on lending fees, title closing fees (where allowed by law), and other discounts from local businesses.

Upon successful closing of a hero transaction, HFHC agents agree to pay 30% of their company’s gross commission. Twenty five percent (25%) is credited to the hero as a rebate on the HUD Settlement Statement and the remaining 5% is sent to Homes For Heroes®  with a portion being donated to the Homes For Heroes®  Foundation to assist heroes in need with housing resources or financial support. Participating mortgage lenders agree to a pre-determined discount of fees to heroes who purchase or refinance a home.

There are no hidden fees, fine print or red tape to taking advantage of these savings whether you’re buying, selling, or refinancing.

The Homes For Heroes Charleston team agrees that facilitating this program allows them to target a unique, yet rewarding niche in a very competitive real estate market. Involved are: Lasaine Johnson, Felicia Smalls, Paulette Fuller, Temaria S. Planter, and Shakeima Chatman, all brokered with Carolina Elite Real Estate in North Charleston. Mortgage lender, Matt Dorsey of Starkey Mortgage has also signed on to assist with this new venture.

“Being connected to a cause coincides with who each of us are individually and as a group,” says team member Shakeima Chatman. “We are wives, mothers, and entrepreneurs who are very active in our communities and we believe that ensuring our local heroes have a safe and comfortable home is the right thing to do because they sacrifice their lives and time to keep our country and communities safe each and every day.”

Homes For Heroes® is a nationwide program created in 2002 after the tragic events of 9/11. As the nation’s first and largest hero savings program, it allows local heroes including any military, law enforcement, firefighters, educators, and healthcare workers across the country access to save on real estate transactions. The organization’s mission is to provide extraordinary savings to local heroes who provide extraordinary services to our community every day. Over 8593 homes have been sold to date under the Homes For Heroes® moniker.
